For 13 years I have used HillRom's The Vest Airway Clearance System, Model 105. Although this Vest did great for me and has helped me a lot, it is really outdated. I wanted a new system so I could have a fresh start in doing my treatments. I decided to invest in HillRom's newer version of The Vest, The Monarch Airway Clearance System. This device has revolutionized my treatment process in ways I did not know was possible.
The Monarch Airway Clearance System and the Vest Airway Clearance System are alike in many ways. Both are great for people with airway clearance issues. I personally favor the Monarch because it is wireless and it is much smaller. The size makes it easier to set up my treatment and to bring it on the go. Also, a mobile therapeutic experience makes me feel like my treatments are less of a chore. I am able to do my treatments while completing other tasks. This creates a sense of independence and control in my treatments. The Monarch is also connected to an app. This app allows you to see how many hours/treatments you have completed with the system. I love this feature because my mom is able to see how much I do my treatments, and it helps me be kept accountable.
On the top is my original Vest system. On the bottom is my new Monarch system. I wanted to post these videos side by side of both systems, so you can see the difference between the two.
The Vest Airway Clearance System inflates and almost shakes you using High Frequency Chest Wall Oscillation or HFCWO. There is tubing and a large device attached to you during the treatment.
The Monarch Airway Clearance System is more of a vibration without inflation. There are 8 pulmonary oscillating discs (PODs) that contain magnets. These are placed over the upper and lower lobes of the lungs. The PODs vibrate and provide direct kinetic energy to the lungs.
Both treatments are designed to thin mucous and knock it loose, which helps in coughing it up for removal. I am so excited about my new vest, and I cannot wait to see how else it changes my treatment experience.
Thank you everyone for reading and sharing my blog! I appreciate every one of you and hope everyone is staying happy and healthy during this stressful time.
Wash your hands!:)
